The 1893 Beamish Museum Steam powered Carousel (Centre) Refurbishment (Part-2)
In the main picture above you can see the original trailer housing the main galloper centre
Here at Rundles we have been supplying and manufacturing amusement park spares for the fairground and Amusement Park industry for over a century. During this time we have accumulated an extensive stock of new and old types of the varied types of parts needed. We have also built new fairground rides, repaired and refurbished many amusement and fairground rides.
Continuing with our task of refurbishing the centre piece for a 1893 steam-powered carousel for the Beamish Museum, we have meticulously stripped down the main centre of the galloper to remove it from the trailer.
The centre 'chimney' is thoroughly cleaned together with all the other parts. Each dolly gear has been removed along with the bearings and brackets
Replacing the wood
It is here that we found some of the timbers to be worn and in need of replacement. Having sourced some Douglas Fir, which is the strongest of our homegrown woods, we milled and replaced some of the beams to suit.
Making the Dolly Gears
The new Dolly wheel gears of the "British Galloper" are being fabricated in our own workshop by our lathe turners.
